    Walking the Way experience selections

Please choose 5 experiences from the selections below in order of preference.

All places will be allocated as "first in" basis

Experience 1 - Walking the Way - Conversing with our Muslim neighbours
    Picture
A natural part of walking is talking. When we journey with others, we inevitably strike up a conversation along the way. No wonder Pope Francis so often promotes "dialogue" as part of our journey of faith. Our CSO spirituality day includes the opportunity to enjoy some interfaith conversation with a Muslim community. We will travel together to Gallipoli mosque at Auburn, you will meet your host who will lead us on a guided tour of their worship space and answer our questions. Afterwards we will stroll the streets of Auburn, taking in the cultural tapestry of this part of Sydney. We will continue our conversation at tables over a middle eastern lunch, and sample some 'real' Baclava and other treats before boarding our bus back to Caroline Chisholm Centre.

Meet:     At the CSO and travel to the Mosque by bus
    Time:     8.30am
    Bring:    modest clothes (covered arms and legs; women - a shawl/wrap to throw on around your shoulders may be a helpful option);
comfortable shoes for walking several blocks (we will remove our shoes before entering the mosque); your questions, openness and
                  spirit of enquiry.
    Lunch:
Provided at a local café (middle eastern shared banquet)

Experience 2 -  Walking the Way - Broken Bay Lighthouse
    Picture

Pull on your walking shoes! This Staff Spirituality Day pilgrimage is a chance to get some fresh air and exercise while contemplating the natural beauty of our Diocese as well as its iconic landmark and tucked away treasures. We will spend the morning traversing the level 2/3 walking path to Barrenjoey Lighthouse (1.2km, 1 hour return), taking in the views and sharing a prayer at the top.

Barrenjoey Lighthouse stands at the southern entrance to Broken Bay. It is one of Sydney’s most iconic sights and boasts a notable cultural heritage. Built in 1881 from sandstone quarried on site, the lighthouse, its oil room and keepers’ cottages remain unpainted in the original stone finish. When the Broken Bay Diocese was established, it was natural that the lighthouse became the key symbol, included in the diocesan coat of arms and CSO logo, and the motto selected was ‘Lumen Christi’, the Light of Christ.

Leaving the Lighthouse walk, we will head along the beach (drive or carpool) to our cafe lunch venue. Eat in or enjoy take-away on the beach opposite. After lunch we continue our pilgrimage by visiting the Biblical Garden, a tucked-away meditative garden space with gorgeous views. Stop, breathe, give thanks....

Time:         Meet at 10.00am at the Barrenjoey Lighthouse carpark - click here for information.
Central Coast people may like to catch the ferry from Ettalong - click here for timetable.
3.00pm Finish - in plenty of time for those catching the 4pm ferry back to the Central Coast.
Bring:        Casual, relaxed clothes and comfortable shoes (leave the stilettos at home!), bottle of water
Lunch:       BYO or money for lunch at local cafe
Facilities:  There are toilets at the lunch stop and there may be some in the carpark and park areas

Experience 3 - Walking the Way - Reflection on the Book
    Picture
Inspiration for the journey as we walk with our children
As a part of the CSO Spirituality day we invite you to experience an insight into the ‘Walking the Way’ reflection mornings.

This session is designed to give the participants a firsthand experience of the ‘Walking the Way’ book. The sessions are designed to nourish your faith as well as teach simple, effective tools to assist faith-sharing with your family. We will journey through the ‘Walking the Way’ program in the stunning surrounds of the Canisius centre in Pymble. Participants will enjoy quiet reflection, meditation and interactive discussion. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Life is a journey. It is not an event that happens all at once. Life unfolds, step by step, day by day...
